Some of the most iconic ghibil films have seen sequels.
Here are the five most recent ones, according to BFI.1.
The Incredibles 2GX/Sony / Universal The Incursus sequel to The Incursion was originally announced at the Venice Film Festival, but a sequel was never made.
However, in 2017, the studio acquired the rights to the film and has since made several other sequels.
The plot was originally set in the year 2025, but Disney decided to take a more realistic approach.
It set the film in the future and featured a female lead.
This sequel is set to open in 2019.2.
The Land Before TimeThe sequel to the 1999 Disney animated classic The Land before Time was originally going to be set in 2028.
However Disney decided that the story of a boy named Noah, who had grown up in a cave, would be a bit too much for the film.
So instead of a sequel, they decided to make a film about a girl named Grace, who is a descendant of Noah and her mother.
The film was originally slated for a 2018 release, but it was pushed back to 2020.3.
A Bug’s LifeThe first of Disney’s animated films to be released in the United States, A Bug is a Grouch was originally scheduled to be a 2019 release, which was later changed to 2020 and eventually released in 2021.
However the film was later pushed back again to 2021.4.
The Princess and the Frog The sequel to A Bug was originally planned to be made in 2021, but was delayed to 2022.
However it has since been pushed back a year to 2021, and it will open in 2022.5.
The Emperor’s New GrooveDisney’s 2017 remake of A Bug starring Lupita Nyong’o was originally to be called The Emperor.
However after Lupita was cast as the lead in the film, the project was shifted to 2019.
The project also made a return in 2019 with an updated title of The Emperor Is Dead.6.
PocahontasThe sequel of Pocahantas was originally supposed to be in 2019, but that film was pushed to 2022 because Disney decided it didn’t fit the Disney family.
However in 2018, Disney bought the rights back and is currently making a sequel in 2019 to Pocahants 2023 release date.7.
Finding Nemo The sequel of Finding Nemocreans was originally expected to be an animated film.
However that film became a live-action feature film in 2017.8.
The Lion King The second film in Disney’s live-animated series, Lion King was originally meant to be announced in 2021 as a live action feature film, but the film became live action.
However The Lion Kings sequel was pushed a year and a half later in 2022 to 2019 so that it could open in 2020.9.
Tangled Tangled was originally due to open on the Disney Channel in 2021 but was pushed further back to 2022 to make way for Tangled: The Little Mermaid.
It will open on Netflix in 2019 and will be directed by Guillermo del Toro.10.
ZootopiaZootopia was originally intended to be out in 2021 for Disney’s Disney Channel.
However Universal bought the film rights to Zootropolis in 2020, and Disney moved it to 2019 for a live broadcast.
It has since moved to 2020 for a Netflix release.
